Spring anime 2009 Keepers

well after having a chance to watch a few episodes of the new season I can safely say this is one of the worst anime seasons I can remember in a long time. That being said, these are the keepers:

Queen's Blade: can be summed up in one magical word, boobies
K-ON!: best show of the season, funny, warm, enjoyable. Great stuff
Hayate the Combat Butler season 2: not as good as the previous series but still good stuff, wish Hayate wasn't so weak though
Natsu no Arashi: fun series by Shaft, really liking the character designs.
Tayutama -Kiss on my Deity-: prolly the worst of my keeper shows. Predictable and some annoying characters but what do you expect? It's a typical porn game to anime adapation. Still an enjoyable way to spend 20 mins though.
Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-chan!: N/A hasn't aired yet

New Anime Season - mark 2.0

Well the new anime season is upon us and honestly I feel like it's the best in a while. There are quite a few shows I'll be watching.

Akane Iro Ni Somaru Saka - Typical harem type show, prolly my least favorite and most generic out of all the new shows. Still it's a fun romantic comedy, feels a lot like Shuffle. Guy lives with his "sister" while their parents are away, who just happen to be world famous super spies lol, and saves a random girl who happens to be his fiance. While girl originally likes guy due to some stupid accident she now hates him yet has to live with him.

Kannagi - My favorite out of all the new shows. Light (for now) and truly funny. Some nice touching moments mixed in with lots of comedy. Female lead is really likable. About a guy that makes a statue out of a sacred tree that gets possessed by a local god. God now lives with the guy who helps her exercise small demons. OP animation has nothing to do with the actual show but is great.

Toaru Majutsu no Index - Wow, this show feels exactly like Shakugan No Shana. Lots of action, some comedy bits thrown in, great animation. Again, if you like Shana you'll like this. Did I mention they were made by the same people? Anyway, In a city that's basically one huge learning center full of espers, a guy with the power to cancel out other powers meets a nun type person that is being chased for the knowledge she carries. Plus it has a loli-teacher that is cute & insane.

Hyakko - Slice of life comedy about 4 girls that go to a giant school. Feels a lot like a mixture of Sketchbook & Gokujo Setokai. Comedy bits aren't over the top but make you smile. Entire cast seems to be all female, except for a crazy male teacher, which is always a plus. It's a great way to pass 20 minutes.

Kemeko DX - lol, this is one crazy show. Hot girls? check. Retardly funny? check. Weird? Check. Basically it's about a boy that makes a promise with a girl when they were kids to marry each other, well fast forward 10 or so years and the girl comes back....... In a short, fat, ugly super robot suit that's shaped like a woman. It's really hilarious with crazy aliens attacking, super weapons, a childhood friend with a crush and a sister that does everything. I can't recommend this show enough.

Toradora - Tsundere, tsundere, tsundere, tsundere. Another romantic comedy about a boy that everyone things is a thug and a little girl that everyone thinks is a mean nutcase. Hijinks happen, girl actually lives next door and is a slob, they find out they actually like each others best friends and try to help one another out. A fun show. Mom is super hot and there's a retarded parrot.

Macademi Wasshoi - Fantastic! This is the fan service show of the season and it's just plain nuts. I'm gonna throw out some random phrases in attempt to explain it. Magic school, dog girl, ero, claymation, cute girls, personality changing vampire chick, hot naked demon/god girl, shouta teacher complete with detachable head, lots of parodies. Anyway, the show is great, I can't recommend it enough. It's about a boy that goes to a magic school that is having a test on summoning a familiar. He messes up and summons a naked demon/god girl that goes on a crazy rampage. Good stuff :)

Yozakura Quartet - Last show I watched, I actually didn't think I would like this one and was quite surprised. I expected it to be a lot more serious than it was. It's about a town where yokai (monsters/demons) live together with humans. When the yokai go bad there is a special team that goes to handle them, this show is about that team. I really like the character designs in this show, very similar to Hyakko. Cute girls including the mayor of the town, a cat girl and a girl with glasses that dresses in a school uniform. I'm definitely going to keep watching, this is prolly the most serious of the shows I'm watching.

Dragon Ball Z marathon

Season 2 was prolly one of the worst shows I ever watched and season 3 seems to be continuing where 2 left off, not a surprise since 3 is basically the 2nd half of season 2. Tales of Vesperia

Wow, this is prolly my favorite RPG released in the least year, yes even over Persona 3 Fes. While I'm not usually a fan of dubbed dialog in RPGs the voice acting is great, the story is good and and everything else about the game just feels polished. I'm about 20 hours in, hopefully I'll be able to beat it by next weekend so I can start on Infinite Undiscovery, which apparently isn't all that great :/

Picked up Soul Calibur IV yesterday for the PS3, got the LE (honestly not worth the extra $20 :P). Great game so far, a like it a whole lot better than the piece of crap that was SC III. I'm really digging the bonus characters created by mangaka, all are extremely hot even though they are just clones of existing characters. Vader plays nice but is a little hard to use until you get used to the lack of speed. Good stuff.

Wanted movie, very disappointing

Now don't get me wrong, it was a good action movie and if you look at from the standpoint of just being a random action movie it's perfectly fine. The problem is that it's not a random action movie, it's a movie that was supposed to be based on a very good comic book series full of super villains, murder, rape, super heroes, powers, aliens, talking penises, shit monsters, multi-dimensions, costumes and all around comic book stuff. Instead we get a movie about assassins, killer weavers, codes hidden in looms, and a retarded plot. Everyone in the theater loved it, my friends loved it, critics seem to love it but people like myself who have read the comic all say the same thing. That wasn't Wanted.

Dororo was Berserk before Berserk

Currently reading vol. 2 of the Dororo manga and all I can say this is some violent stuff. One thing I did notice though was a lot of the themes in Berserk seem to have originated in Dororo. Hero missing body parts taken by demons, body parts replaced by weapons, hero out to kill monsters and demons at are also following him. Interesting stuff.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, two new characters announced

Sweet, two more characters added to the roster. The one I'm really excited about is Tekkaman!! The other new character is Batsu from Rival Schools. So the characters that we know so far on the Tatsunoko side are: Ken from Gatchaman, Casshern (Casshan), and now Tekkaman. On the Capcom side we have: Ryu, Chun-Li, & Batsu. Can't wait to get more info!

Awesome fighting game from Capcom that takes place during the Sengoku period. You may have played the action beat-em/kill-em up Sengoku Basara or Devil Kings (bastardized US version). Anyway, my copy just shipped from play-asia. Can't wait to get it :)

Dororo

Currently enjoying the Dororo manga by Osamu Tezuka, the creator of Astroboy (Tetsuwan ATOM), Metropolis, Phoenix, etc.). Great stuff, I've been interested in Dororo ever since I played the under rated Sega PS2 game "Blood Will Tell" that was based on the manga. It's a kick ass story about a baby that basically had all his body parts stolen by demons from a deal his father made with them and had replacement parts made by his adopted father who found him. Now as a teenager he goes around looking for the demons that have his parts to reclaim them. Did I mention that he has blade arms, rocket knees, etc? Anyway, the manga has spawned an anime series which I still want to watch (old circa 1969), the videogame I already mentioned and a recent live action movie. Good fun stuff.

Holy crap. I finally caught up with all the School Rumble manga released so far in Japan and all I can say is holy crap. They really turned up the angst in this series to the point I never would have expected it. Great stuff and I won't spoil anything for anyone but lets just say there are a lot of messed up relationships & people out there. I can't help but post this picture from chp 257. You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to chp 279. Man, I can't wait to see who our hero ends up with, I know who I want it to be :)

I know by now this is old news and most other places have already discussed it, but I just had to make my thoughts clear on this issue. It's freaking crap. The total disdain that Microsoft treats it's customers with is just ridiculous. Case in point, look at this shit. The US packaging for Lost Odyssey has discs 1 - 3 put on a single central hub (just like in Blue Dragon which pissed me off too) and disc 4 put into a paper sleeve. The left side of the image is the US packaging and the right side is the Asian packaging. Every other region, Europe, Japan & Asia has decent packaging for this game yet why does the US, the largest customer base for the Xbox 360, get this crap? *sigh* And to all those people that say, "It's just packaging, why do you care? Why are you whining about something stupid?" I say you can kiss my ass. Btw, I'm on my 4th Xbox 360.... how's that for quality?

Dual Shock 3, rumbles some PS2 games but not all?

Just received my Dual Shock 3s in the mail and was anxious to try them out on some ps2 games. The first game I popped in was Final Fantasy XII and it rumbled fine. It was nice to be able to play that game with rumble again ^_^. I then tried Final Fantasy X-2..... nothing. Next I put in Odin Sphere..... nothing. I know that firmware update 2.0 for the PS3 enabled rumble on PS2 games but did it not do it for all? I hope there isn't anything wrong with my controllers.....

edit: apparently playstation 2 rumble wasn't used as much as I remember... I just popped in both games on my old playstation 2 and neither had rumble at the beginning and then only rarely...

Picked up Uncharted: Drake's Fortune at lunch today..... I wasn't going to get it because the demo didn't scream "buy me now!!", it was like Gears of Wars lite with a wimpy lead. Anyway, I was going to wait to get it later (especially since I have Mario, Ass Creed and next week Rock Band to play) but you see, I had this 10% off coupon that was burning a hole in my pocket that expired today so I figured what the hell.

Picked this up today at Toys R Us. Had to wait until 5 PM to be able to get it, who the hell ever heard of a street time, but it was worth it. Got the game, the LE collector's coin (don't know what the hell I'll do with it but oh well), and a $25 TRU gift card. Not too shabby. ^_^ Only played the game for about an hour but it's fantastic. There aren't very many videogames that can bring you the joy you get from playing an awesome Mario game.

Another great Minami-ke episode. Poor Makoto, he only wants to be friends but alas Chiaki is having none of it. Highlights of this episode: Kana & Haruka in bras (wai wai!), retarded Ninomiya-kun, sparkly (and cute trap) Mako-chan, two blocked upskirts of Uchida :( , a little chest rubbing action, drooling sleep talking Kana getting kicked in the head, and flat chested Chiaki. This is def my favorite show of the season.

Looks like the 3rd full anime, series to hit blu-ray, the horrible depressathon Air and the short Yukikaze being the others, will be Utawarerumono. Actually I guess it's the 2nd since it comes out two days before Yukikaze. I enjoyed this series a lot, mostly due to the awesome girls, so I'll be picking up this release. Picked up Bioshock from Worst Buy at lunchtime today, yay! I took the CircuitCity ad and pricematched it so I got it for a cool $49 bucks, not too shabby. Anyway, Houston, people seem to have a problem with this potential GOTY title: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=182534
Looks like the game was cropped for whatever reason. An official response from the 2kgames says they're "lookin' into it". All seems a bit silly to me, oh well. Can't wait to play my copy

Well it's that special time of year for video game sports fans. Madden 08 was released today and like all the other crazies I was out there fighting for my copy. Nabbed one of the last three xbox 360 versions at Worst Buy. At least I'm not crazy enough to try to fight the insane people at the midnight sale..... Anyway, once again the 360 version of a multi-platform game blows away the PS3 version. Sad, I wonder if there will ever be a multi-platform game that's better on the PS3.... prolly not.

A few more days until Bioshock comes out for the 360. Pretty excited but I can't decide if I want to buy the ass Collector's edition or stick with the regular version..... I can get a bonus making of dvd I'll never watch, a soundtrack I'll never listen to, and a steel case I hate all for an additional $10..... but you see, where they get ya is with the bonus "Big Daddy" figure that comes with it when you order it from gamestop :( Bastards. Also, is it really necessary to use your powers to beat people with dead cats? Think of the poor kitties!!!
